REPLACING THE TCU BATTERY COMMENTS
https://www.emtbforums.com/threads/has-anyone-actually-replaced-their-tcu-battery.29984/
1) I got the dreaded TCU battery error code today on my 2019 ff Levo. How hard can it be to change the coin cell? I don't have plastic tweezers, but I do have very delicate, and VERY pointy stainless steel surgical tweezers. But even they were too fat to grab the battery if I wanted to risk short circuiting the battery.
Cutting to the chase, I was able to simultaneously lift the retaining
clip and poke the battery hard enough with the tweezer to lever it out. I
would really like to speak with the product design team that approved
this.
2) Just did mine last week. Finding a non-metallic tweezers that work is a joke. I used a sharp pick and caught the edge of the battery where its sealed together and pulled it out.
3) I just pushed down the retaining clip with the tip of a bamboo chop stick, gave the TCU a solid thump into my palm and the battery dropped right out...
4) No luck with tweezers. Got it out with the end of a paper clip.
5) Likewise no luck with tweezers but used my dental/seal pick and it worked just fine.
7) EXCEPT that no tool or tweezer or anything could get that battery out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had plastic tweezers, thin Swiss Army tweezers, dental tools. NOPE. I took the bike to the shop.. The shop also mentioned that they had trouble removing that dime sized little battery. So, while there's a battery, it is probably more like the Mastermind unit. It is not replaceable since it is impossible to remove it.
8) By the way it is almost impossible to remove the battery. The manual states to use tweezers but it is impossible to retrieve it. As soon as the tweezers enter the battery slot which is recessed they close making it impossible to grasp as the slot is SO narrow. I messed with it for an hour and finally used a toothpick to lower the small silver retaining clip which stays out of the way and than I tapped the TCU on a piece of 2 X 4 until the battery dislodged a bit and I could grab it. Specialized must have a VERY special tweezer.
